In the heart of Abuja, Nigeria, amidst the bustling cityscape, a haven of creativity and empowerment unfolded at the Hawthorn Suites Garki. The Karuna Center for Peace Building, in collaboration with the Neem Foundation and the Elohim Development Foundation, orchestrated a transformative Two-Day Retreat to commemorate International Women’s Day 2024. This gathering served as a platform for women from diverse backgrounds to converge, reflect, and express themselves through art and dialogue.
At the core of this retreat was a profound acknowledgment of the resilience and strength inherent in women. Throughout history, women have faced countless challenges, yet they continue to rise, overcome, and pave the way for a more equitable and inclusive world. The theme of resilience echoed through the halls of the Hawthorn Suites as participants engaged in activities aimed at celebrating their journeys and amplifying their voices.
One of the standout activities of the retreat was the painting session, where women picked up brushes and colors to communicate their thoughts, experiences, and aspirations. Through strokes of paint on canvas, they explored the depths of their emotions, telling stories of perseverance, hope, and solidarity. Each artwork was a testament to the unique and diverse narratives that make up the tapestry of womanhood.
Prior to the artistic expression, the Executive Director of the Elohim Development Foundation led a session on “Building Effective Communication Skills for Women Leaders.” Communication is the cornerstone of progress and success, and equipping women with the tools to articulate their ideas, assert their rights, and advocate for change is paramount. This workshop provided a safe space for participants to hone their communication skills, fostering confidence and empowerment among women leaders.
The retreat served as more than just a gathering; it was a catalyst for meaningful connections and collective action. As participants engaged in dialogue and shared experiences, bonds were forged, and a sense of solidarity emerged. The importance of investing in women and amplifying their voices became evident, not just within the confines of the retreat but as a broader societal imperative.
Through the lens of #internationalwomensday, #womenresilience, #investinwomen, and #amplifywomenvoice, the retreat echoed a powerful message to the world: women’s voices matter, and their stories deserve to be heard. By creating spaces for women to come together, express themselves, and support one another, we move closer to a future where gender equality is not just a dream but a reality.
As we reflect on the 2024 International Women’s Day Retreat, let us carry forward the spirit of empowerment and solidarity. Let us continue to uplift and amplify women’s voices in all spheres of life, knowing that true progress is only possible when everyone is given the opportunity to thrive.
In the words of Audre Lorde, “When I dare to be powerful, to use my strength in the service of my vision, then it becomes less and less important whether I am afraid.” May we all dare to be powerful, and may we continue to celebrate the resilience, strength, and voices of women around the world.
